World Cup Cricket has started in West Indies. Yesterday was the opening match between Pakistan and the home team which we lost :( not a great start for a tournament we've so patiently waited for... Also in Pakistan's pole are Ireland and Zimbabwe. Next both matches are extremely important if we were to go to Super 8, the second round. Pakistan, who's known for balling has a weak lineup of ballers this time. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif both are out for doping charges. And of course, we're missing the giants, Akram and Waqar. Since I've been in the US, this is the first time ever the games are at a decent time as opposed to the last couple of tournaments when games started at midnight given the time zone differences. The tournament brings back fond memories of the last World Cup which I watched with my buddies back in Wichita in Adeel's basement. There are a couple of places here in town that are showing the matches but it's hard to get off of work these days and also it's more fun watching with friends. One place that's showing for sure is Diva Lounge in Davis Square, 5 bucks a game. If, Insha Allah, Pakistan were to advance to the second round, we will meet our traditional rivals India, now that's gonna be THE game. I've already told my Manager that I might be getting sick soon, not sure exactly, depends on when they meet. I hope it's on a weekend. We'll see how it goes, I'm the only Pakistani left here in the Boston team, and my Indian friends at work have invited me to watch the game with them, I have a feeling it's gonna get interesting :) Best of luck to the boys!
Also, the brackets start tomorrow for NCAA, March Madness is on...
